About Us
The Sighthound Family
Hi! We are Charis* and Noah and we are excited to share our story with you! We have been together for 6 years and are happily engaged!
Who are the sighthounds? I'm glad you asked! We have three wonderful whippets; Patch, Leela, and Finn. Patch and Finn are brother and sister from the same litter. Both of them are retired AKC champion show dogs that we took in as temporary fosters and fell in love with (yes, we admit it... we are a failed foster home). Leela we adopted as a puppy and is from the same family as well, the daughter of Patch and Finn's older sister.
They five of us make up the sighthound family; we love to adventure and enjoy life together.
Join us and become a part of the sighthound family!

Why the Name?
Sighthounds, also called gazehounds, are a subset of the hound group known for using their keen eyesight and immense speed to hunt rather than smell and endurance. The Sighthound family includes breeds such as the greyhound, whippet, italian greyhound, borzoi and saluki. Dogs in the sighthound group tend to share common physical characteristics such as a long, slender snout and lean bodies with long legs. Their large chest makes room for larger than average hearts while the small waist and flexible back allow for a distinct running style called double-suspension galloping.
The whippet, as they are known today, is believed to have originated in England around the medieval period where they were often used to hunt rabbits and to provide pest control around castles. Beginning in the 19th century, whippets became popular as racing dogs, well known for running speeds up to 35 MPH. In 1888, the American Kennel Club officially recognized the whippet breed and shortly after in 1891 the Kennel club of great Britain followed suit.; allowing the breed to begin competing in formal dog shows. Today whippets are known for their playful and loving temperament as well as a watchful and quiet demeanor.
Our three whippets, Patch, Leela and Finn, are the inspiration for the name Sighthound Photography. Not only do we have three adorable mascots for the business, but we also found that Sighthound Photography was a fitting name for how we capture the world around us; with a watchful eye and clear vision for creating beautiful images.
